Tigard Police Arrest Attempted Arsonist
Late Monday night at approximately 11:00 pm, Tigard Police Officers working patrol in an area recently hit with vandalism noticed a flare burning in a heavily wooded area off 103rd Avenue, just south of Amanda Ct. Officers attempted to extinguish the fire with negative results. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue (TVF&R) arrived on scene and quickly put the fire out. The fire was within 100 feet of occupied homes.

Tigard Officers along with a Beaverton Police K-9 and a Washington County Deputy performed a dog track. This track immediately leads to the residence of 40 year old Charles R. Kastel who lives with his parents at 14259 SW 100th Ave Tigard, OR. Tigard Officers interviewed several witnesses who ultimately provided the final details leading to Charles Kastel's arrest for attempted arson and a variety of other lesser charges.

During the investigation Tigard Officers discovered additional items that have been used in acts of vandalism in recent weeks, such as paint tossed into the street and staples strewn across the roadway, causing hundreds of dollars in damage to commuter vehicles. Tigard Officers are currently investigating if there are any links between the two cases.
