Tigard City Council Appoints Tom Woodruff to Vacant Council Position At their special meeting on February 12, 2004, the City Council appointed Tom Woodruff to the council seat vacated by Craig Dirksen, who was appointed Mayor in January following the death of Mayor Griffith. The Council interviewed eight applicants for the position and appointed Mr. Woodruff at the conclusion of the interviews. Mr. Woodruff is a member of the City’s Budget Committee and a 5 year resident of Tigard. He is employed as a Senior account Manager at PacifiCare Behavioral Health. He served for fours years as an elected member of the West Union School Board. He has also been active in the community as President of his Homeowners Association, President of a School Community Club and Parent Teacher Committee, and a Board Member of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. When asked what he would like to see accomplished on the City Council during his tenure, Woodruff commented, “I am familiar with the Council goals for 2004 and would support the efforts to see them met. I am particularly interested in the goal of communication, as that is one of my strengths, both as a result of education and experience. I am very supportive of encouraging more citizens to become involved and I like the idea of having a young person becoming actively involved in Council and committee activities. During my term, I would like for staff and the public to know that I was open-minded and not driven by any special agencies or groups. I want to represent the public at large.” Mayor Dirksen welcomed the appointment of Tom Woodruff and is looking forward to his input. The Mayor is also pleased to have a full Council to address the opportunities and challenges facing the City and accomplish the Council’s goals. Mayor Dirksen encouraged all of the applicants to be involved in some way in the community, on a board or committee or another volunteer capacity. |
