Tigard Police To Participate in "3 Flags" Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign The Tigard Police Department will begin placing increased emphasis and enforcement on vehicle safety belt and child restraint laws. Beginning February 9th and continuing until February 22nd, motorists in Tigard can expect officers observing whether seat belts and child restraint devices are present and in use. Tigard Police would like to remind motorists of the law requiring the use of passenger restraints when driving and for all passengers. Special accommodations are also required by law for infants and children. Please take the opportunity to ensure that you and everyone in the vehicle you are operating are secure and lawful. The campaign, also known in part as "3 Flags," is in participation with other law enforcement agencies in Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. It has been made possible locally by a grant distributed by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The grant allows for funding of overtime for officers to specifically enforce the traffic safety laws regarding passenger restraints. Presently, violators are subject a Class D violation which imposes a $94 fine. For further information regarding passenger safety belts please contact ODOT at 503-986-4199. For additional information you can also call the Child Safety Seat Resource Center at ODOT. The number is 1-800-772-1315. Information is also available on the Tigard Police webpage. |
