City of Tigard seeks candidates to fill City Council position
City Council member Craig Dirksen was appointed as Mayor by the Tigard City Council on January 13, 2004. He will serve as Mayor until Dec. 31, 2004. The position of Mayor was vacated with the recent death of Jim Griffith. There is now a Councilor vacancy on the City Council.

The City Council has decided on a process to receive applications from the community for the Councilor position. The term of this appointment also ends December 31, 2004.

Persons interested in being considered for appointment to the Councilor position must be a registered voter of the City of Tigard, and must have been a resident within the Tigard City limits since February 24, 2003.

Persons interested in being considered for appointment to the position of City Councilor must complete the "Citizen Committee Interest Application for City Council" and answer three supplemental questions. Application forms are available at Tigard City Hall, Tigard Library and on the city website.

Completed applications must be submitted to Liz Newton, Assistant to the City Manager, at City Hall, 13125 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard, OR 97223. The deadline to accept applications is noon on Friday, February 6, 2004.

Applications must indicate how applicants can be reached on Wednesday, February 11, between 8am and 5pm. Persons will be contacted if selected to be interviewed for the vacant Council position. Selected candidates must be available to be interviewed by the City Council the evening of Thursday, February 12.

The tentative schedule is for appointment and swearing in of the successful Council candidate on either February 24 or March 9, 2004.

Questions can be directed to City Recorder, Cathy Wheatley, or Assistant to the City Manager, Liz Newton, at 503-639-4171.
