"It Was a Dark and Stormy Night" at Tigard Public Library On Thursday, January 22nd at 7:00 P.M., the Tigard Public Library will host a free presentation by Jill Hinckley, mystery novel expert, and co-owner of Mystery By the Book in Portland, Oregon. Jill brings a wealth of knowledge and background to her presentation. She will talk about the history of the mystery novel from 1850 forward, including the top writers of each time period. She will cover Sherlock Holmes, British mysteries, the hardboiled detective novels of this country, and crime fiction and police procedurals. The 70's and 80's brought an explosion of popularity to the mystery novel with the addition of women detectives. Jill will entertain us with the exploits of amateur sleuths and private detectives, humorous and not so humorous. She will cover current trends in the genre including "niche mysteries", the Tart Noire, oddball occupations and "mysteries in the mainstream" (mainstream writers turning to the mystery genre). Lastly, she will consider future trends in the genre. If you are a mystery fan, or want to delve into a new reading genre, you don't want to miss this fascinating presentation. Please join us at the Tigard Public Library on Thursday, January 22nd for an entertaining and enlivening look at the mystery novel. The library is located at 13125 SW Hall Blvd. For more information, call 503-684-6537 or visit the library's web site. |
