Garbage Pick Up Service Impacted by Snow and Ice In addition to all of the other impacts of the snow and ice storm, residential and commercial solid waste pick up has also been impacted. Waste Management (which operates Miller Sanitary Service) has been forced to curtail service in Tigard during the current emergency. Residential trucks are not out collecting waste today (Thursday, January 8). Trucks have not been able to run their routes since Monday. Waste Management hopes to get residential trucks out tomorrow. If they can, tomorrow (Friday) Waste Management will run Thursday routes. Friday routes will be run on Saturday. Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be entitled to double pick ups on their regular days next week. Waste management’s commercial trucks are out today, but are picking up only if drop boxes are easily accessible. If a commercial establishment wants garbage picked up today or tomorrow, and their drop box is not easily accessible (i.e. it is in an enclosure that is snowed in) owners will need to clear the obstruction and move the box to where it is easily accessible. Roll out trucks (high volume pick up) are out, but are concentrating on high priority accounts - hospitals and hotels, for example. Waste Management is working to restore normal service as soon as possible. Tigard is also served by Pride Sanitary Service. Pride’s offices are closed, but a recording on their phones reports the same residential pick up arrangements as proposed by Waste Management. |
