Whiskey Flats Brass Band at Tigard Public Library On Friday, January 9th, the Tigard Public Library is pleased to host a performance by the Whiskey Flats Brass Band. Whiskey Flats is based in Stevenson, Washington, with members coming from the Columbia River Gorge, Portland, Beaverton and Vancouver. This free, public performance will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Puett Room of the library. Whiskey Flats Brass Band is comprised of eleven brass players ranging in age from fifteen through fifty-five. They play authentic nineteenth century brass band music, in authentic costume, and in many cases, on vintage instruments from the period. Interwoven throughout the performance are historical anecdotes about of life in the nineteenth century, about the brass band movement, and about each individual musical piece. The band's repertoire includes marches, polkas, and opera overtures, the same songs played to audiences two hundred years ago by town bands. Whiskey Flats Brass Band is living history. A replica of the mid-1800's American town band, the group is dedicated to the preservation and appreciation of authentic brass band music. Join the Tigard Public Library and be transported back to the 1800's for an informative and entertaining evening. The library is located at 13125 SW Hall Blvd. in Tigard. For more information, call 503.684.6537 or visit the library's web page. |
