Tigard Police Awarded Law Enforcement Grant

Tigard Police recently received notification that the "Department" was the recipient of a Department of Justice Local Law Enforcement Block Grant. Including a local match, the value of the grant totals $19,881.00.

Strict guidelines for using the grant include a local citizen advisory committee that recommends how the funds are disbursed. In addition, a public hearing regarding the proposed usage is also required. The funds are allocated for "police equipment" and "police training."

The committee has recommended the funds to be spent for the purchase of video cameras for patrol supervisors, including an additional camera to be used to support department wide training efforts. Also included is a digital flat screen monitor to assist in evidentiary video editing and duplication. In addition, the committee also recommended the purchase of video surveillance equipment to enhance crime prevention efforts. Further, the committee recommended the purchase of two AED’s (automatic external defibrillators). The funds will also allow training and the purchase of materials on such topics as "bullying." The curriculum will be instructed in Tigard Schools by the department’s school resource officers.

This is the eighth grant that the Tigard Police Department has received since the inception of the program by the Department of Justice.
