Book Awards
Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award

The Beverly Cleary Children’s Choice Award is named after and honors Oregon author, Beverly Cleary. Sponsored by the Oregon Educational Media Assocition, its purpose is to encourage reading by highlighting good quality literature (fiction and nonfiction) written at a second and third grade reading level and is voted upon by elementary school students in Oregon.

Caldecott Award

The Caldecott Award is named after illustrator, John Caldecott. It is sponsored by the Association of Library Service to Children and is awarded each year for the most distinguished children’s picture book published in the United States.

Coretta Scott King Award

Named after Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King, Jr., this award is given to authors and illustrators of African descent whose books promote an understanding and appreciation of the "American Dream."

Patricia Gallagher Picture Book Award

This award is named Patricia Gallagher, a retired professor of children’s literature at Western Oregon University. Sponsored by the Oregon Reading Association, this children’s choice picture book award is voted upon by Oregon school children of all ages.

Young Reader’s Choice Award

The Young Reader’s Choice Award, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Library Association is the oldest children’s choice award in the United States. Youth in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, British Columbia, and Alberta vote for their favorite book from a list of nominees.
