The Agatha Awards are named for Agatha Christie and presented by Malice Domestic, an organization in existence since 1989, saluting the best traditional mysteries--books best typified by the works of Agatha Christie. BCALA Literary Awards The Black Caucus of the American Library Association Literary Awards recognize outstanding works of Fiction and Nonfiction by African American authors for adult audiences. Book Sense Book of the Year Award Formerly known as the American Booksellers Book of the Year (ABBY) Awards. Awards are given each year to the "hidden treasures" in the adult and children's book categories that American Bookseller Association bookstore members most enjoyed recommending to their customers during the previous year. Caldecott Medal The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. The Crime Writers Association Dagger Awards The best in crime writing awarded by the Crime Writers Association of Great Britain. Edgar Allan Poe Awards The Edgar Awards honor the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, television and film. Hugo Award The Hugo Award, also known as the Science Fiction Achievement Award, is given annually by the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS). Lambda Literary Awards The Lambda Awards, a.k.a. "The Lammys," are presented by The Lambda Literary Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting gay and lesbian literature. Man Booker Prize The Man Booker Prize for Fiction represents the very best in contemporary fiction. One of the world’s most prestigious awards, and one of incomparable influence, it continues to be the pinnacle of ambition for every fiction writer. National Book Award The National Book Award, the nation's preeminent literary prize, is given to recognize achievements in four genres: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, and Young People's Literature. Newbery Medal The Newbery Medal honors the year's most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Nobel Prize for Literature This award is granted not for a single book, but for an author's entire body of work, and hence usually goes to a well-established writer. Oregon Book Awards Oregon Book Awards are presented annually to honor the previous year's finest accomplishments by Oregon writers working in the areas of poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, drama, and young readers' literature. PEN/Faulkner Award The PEN/Faulkner award was founded in the spirit of William Faulkner, who donated his Nobel money to young writers. Over two hundred books are read each year and judged by a panel of three American novelists. Pacific Northwest Book Award (PNBA) The PNBA recognizes excellence in writing from the Pacific Northwest. Pacific Northwest Library Association Young Readers' Choice Award This award is the oldest Children's Choice Award in the U.S. and Canada. Nominations are taken only from the children, teachers, parents and librarians of the Pacific Northwest. Pulitzer Prize The Pulitzer Prizes were endowed by Joseph Pulitzer (1847-1911) in a bequest to Columbia University, and are awarded annually by the president of the university on recommendations from the Pulitzer Prize Board.
