During periods of heavy rain, water rushes downstream creating cuts
rather than following the natural flow of the creek. The red line on the map above shows an approximate
location of a cut in Fanno Creek Park behind City Hall. The creek bed currently bends to the south.
Over time, these natural bends in the creek are cut off. Measures are currently being taken by
Clean Water Services and the City of Tigard to maintain the natural flow of the creek.
Below are some of the construction pictures.

Steel barricades are used to "wall off" the construction areas.
These walls keep dirt and other sediment, stirred up by construction, from going into the stream.
Once construction is complete, these walls will be removed.

Heavy runoff will continue to find the quickest route
downstream, but rocks and boulders are being installed to prevent the water from
cutting the stream bed deeper and to help stabilize the stream banks. The
boulders shown above will also help direct the flow of water into the natural channel.

Netting keeps fish and other critters safe and out of the work area.
Once the nets are set in place, hand held nets are used to take out animals trapped in the area.
Recently Kelly Brahns, Engineering Intern with CWS, removed fish, crawfish, and lamprey
(an eel-like creature) from this work area prior to construction.
