Fanno Creek has been adversely affected by development and the resulting runoff during heavy
rains. Intentional channel straightening, the loss of forest cover, and higher winter flows
have caused the channel to cut downward confining the stream within steep and eroding banks.
This project will improve the form and function of Fanno Creek. In addition to the
channel improvements, wetlands and habitat will be improved with native plants and
logs for wildlife basking and cover. The work will occur over the next two years with
the majority of the work happening in Summer 2010.
Project Elements
- Re-creating a former meander to add channel length and reduce channel slope
- Enhancement of two existing ponds and wildlife habitat
- Removal and Relocation of the Ash Street pedestrian bridge and portion of the trail near the re-meander
- Re-vegetation with native plants
- Repair of eroding banks
Trail Closure
Trail closures in the summer of 2009 will be short term and trail connectivity will
not be affected. The trail between Ash Street and Main Street will be closed
for several months in 2010. Trail traffic will be re-routed; updates will be posted here.
