According to the US Environmental Protection Agency,
"Transportation sources accounted for 29 percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions in 2006. Transportation is the fastest-growing source of GHGs in the
U.S., accounting for 47 percent of the net increase in total U.S. emissions
since 1990. Transportation is also the largest end-use source of CO2, which is
the most prevalent greenhouse gas. These estimates of transportation GHGs do
not include emissions from additional lifecycle processes, such as the extraction
and refining of fuel and the manufacture of vehicles, which are also a significant
source of domestic and international GHG emissions."
When traveling to downtown Tigard, it's easy to do your part and help our
environment. Check out the following alternative transportation infrastructure
in Tigard:
Westside Express Service (WES)
Commuters in Washington and Clackamas counties have a new alternative to I-5/Highway
217. You can travel from Wilsonville to Beaverton in only 27 minutes... on WES.
TriMet's WES (short for Westside Express Service) is a new commuter rail line serving
Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville. WES runs every 30 minutes, Monday
through Friday, during the morning and afternoon rush hour. Schedule
WES runs on weekdays every 30 minutes between 5:30 am and 9:15 am and again
3:30 pm to 8:00 pm. No service mid-day or on weekends.
To ride WES, you'll need a TriMet All-Zone fare ($2.30). You can purchase a ticket
from the ticket vending machine at the station (debit/credit card only), or
from neighborhood ticket outlets including Safeway, Fred Meyer, New Seasons,
Thriftway and Albertsons stores. TriMet fares are valid on all TriMet buses,
MAX Light Rail, WES Commuter Rail and Portland Streetcar.
WES connects with SMART Transit in Wilsonville; routes within the city of Wilsonville
on SMART are free. However, there is a fare for the Salem Express that goes to and
from Wilsonville and downtown Salem.
Tigard Transit Center Bus Service
The Tigard Transit Center is located Downtown at 8960 SW Commercial Street.
To ride WES, you can connect with bus lines, park your car in one of the 100 Park &
Ride spaces, or park your bike in one of the locker or rack spaces available at the
Tigard Transit Center.

Fanno Creek Trail
Fanno Creek Trail is located downtown behind Tigard City Hall between Hall
Boulevard and Main Street. This natural area along a stretch of Fanno Creek
is a wonderful place to take a quiet walk, enjoy a picnic, view wildlife, and
let the hustle-bustle of urban life melt away. This floodplain area is a grassy,
wooded wetland that provides habitat for a variety of wildlife. Plans are under
consideration for the expansion of this park near the Tigard Library.
The trail through this park is a part of a larger trail network. The Fanno Creek
Greenway Trail has been in planning and implementation for years, and extends in
sections over 15 miles from the Tualatin River to Willamette Park in Portland.
Over half of the trail has been completed, utilizing a mixture of on-street and
off-street routing. The Fanno
Creek Park Master Plan helps fill in a missing
link in this greenway trail, extending the park beyond Hall Boulevard toward
its destination at the Tualatin.
