Winners of Student Sidewalk Art Contest Honored
Mayor Craig E. Dirksen will lead a ceremony next week to honor four Tigard students on winning the New Burnham Street sidewalk art contest. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. at the Public Works Building in downtown Tigard.

Contest winners are Louise Clark, Mary Graham and Ashley Kim of Twality Middle School, and Rosie Rogers (home school). At the event, the contest winners will sign their artwork and receive a $30 gift card.

The students' winning artwork includes drawings of the Western Pond Turtle and Red Legged Frog, sensitive species that live in nearby Fanno Creek. The designs are being stamped into freshly poured concrete sidewalks along Burnham Street and Ash Avenue. "The stamps are coming out great and we are excited for the students to see their artwork in the sidewalks. These designs will be part of New Burnham Street for a long time. One day, these kids will bring their own children here to see their artwork," says Kim McMillan, City of Tigard project manager.

The art contest was open to all Tigard junior high school students. A brainchild of local business owner Mike Stevenson of B&B Print Source, the contest captured the attention of young artists.

The winners sign their work.

Student Art Will Be Cast in Burnham Street Sidewalks
Four Tigard students have been chosen to help design new sidewalks along the refurbished Burnham Street and Ash Avenue in the downtown. Contest winners are Louise Clark, Mary Graham and Ashley Kim of Twality Middle School, and Rosie Rogers (home school).

The students submitted drawings of the Western Pond Turtle and Red Legged Frog, sensitive species that live in nearby Fanno Creek. The students' designs will be stamped into freshly poured concrete sidewalks along Burnham and Ash.

The contest winners will receive a $30 gift card and will be also invited to join Tigard Mayor Craig Dirksen for a ceremony to stamp the first impression of their designs into the sidewalks.

The art contest was open to all Tigard junior high school students. A brainchild of local business owner Mike Stevenson of B&B Print Source, the contest captured the attention of young artists. "I thought we should open up the design to involve the community. It worked out well," Stevenson said.
