Commuter Rail is Coming to Tigard

Commuter Rail is Coming to Tigard

Commuters in Washington and Clackamas counties will soon have a new alternative to I-5/Highway 217. Starting in fall 2008, you can travel from Wilsonville to Beaverton in only 27 minutes… on WES.

TriMet’s WES (short for Westside Express Service) is a new commuter rail line serving Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville. WES will run every 30 minutes, Monday through Friday, during the morning and afternoon rush hour.

Catch up on work. Get some shuteye. Surf the web. Read a novel. Have an idea. Calm your mind... What will you do with your WES time?

More Reasons to Ride the Rail
  • 27 minutes from Wilsonville to Beaverton
  • Free parking at four stations
  • Free Wi-Fi internet access on board
  • Comfortable seats and a smooth ride
  • Real-time arrival displays at all stations
  • Up to 4 bike spaces per train

Credit: Tri Met In the fall of 2008 Oregon's first commuter rail service will provide a new way to get to and from work. Beginning this September, the Westside Express Service, known as WES, will provide service along the heavily traveled Interstate 5 and Highway 217 Corridor. The 14.7-mile project has stations in Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville, and connects to the TriMet MAX light rail at the Beaverton Transit Center.

The station locations are convenient and easy to find:
  • Beaverton: at the Beaverton Transit Center off Canyon Road
  • Hall and Nimbus: at the intersection of Hall and Nimbus in Tigard
  • Tigard: at the Tigard Transit Center near Main Street and Commercial
  • Tualatin: just north of the intersection of Tualatin Sherwood Road and Boones Ferry Road
  • Wilsonville: just off Barbur St.
Together, the stations have nearly 700 Park & Ride spaces. Each new comfortable train car offers WiFi access so you can easily use a laptop or do something else you would rather be doing with your time instead of sitting in traffic in your car or truck. Or you can just sit back and relax with the morning paper.

The Westside Express Service will run every 30 minutes during morning and afternoon rush hours at average speeds of 37 mph, with a top speed of more than 60 mph. A one-way trip between the Beaverton Transit Center and Wilsonville is a reliable 27 minutes. Riding WES will require a TriMet All-Zone fare, certainly cheaper than the price of gas these days.
