Trails in Tigard

Fanno Creek Trail Project (Main Street to Grant Avenue)
January 2012

The City of Tigard plans to construct a trail from Main Street to Grant Avenue. This trail will become part of the Fanno Creek Trail, an important link in our regional trail system. The project will connect an existing trail, located just north of the George Morlan Plumbing Supply property, to Grant Avenue to the west and to the existing asphalt pathway located under Pacific Highway (99W) to the east.

The trail area is overgrown with Himalaya blackberry and other invasive plant species that deter recreation and threaten stream habitat. The trail project will remove invasive species and provide native plantings, trees and wetland grasses to enhance wildlife habitat and the water quality of Fanno Creek.

The project supports the City's effort to restore Tigard's traditional downtown to its original status as the center for commerce, transportation, recreation and government. More Tigard residents will be able to walk or bike to the downtown—a direct safe and convenient route, and an affordable transportation option for Tigard residents.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
  • Construction of 10-foot wide paved trail for pedestrians and bicycles (ADA compliant)
  • 1,100-foot (quarter mile) trail segment to connect Main Street and Grant Avenue
  • Restoration of Fanno Creek stream corridor buffer and habitat
  • Removal of invasive plants, replacing with native plants, trees and wetland grasses
  • Removal of old construction debris and litter
  • Improved stream function and water quality
  • Construction scheduled for July through October 2012
  • Construction vehicles will access the site from Grant Avenue
  • Trail to be maintained by Tigard Parks Department

     About Fanno Creek Regional Trail
Fanno Creek Trail is a regional trail that extends 15 miles from Tualatin to Portland, passing through Tigard, Beaverton and unincorporated Washington County.

Fanno Creek Trail is a paved, multi-use pathway for walkers, runners, bicyclists and nature enthusiasts of all ages. The trail will be accessible to persons with disabilities. The trail is being developed in segments with approximately 60% of Tigard's sections complete, including the Fanno Creek Park segment that connects downtown Tigard with Tigard's City Hall and Library.

When completed, Fanno Creek Trail will connect neighborhoods, parks, schools community and senior centers, libraries and businesses. The trail is expected to become an amenity that significantly enhances the quality of life for Tigard's residents.
