City of Tigard Park System Master Plan Update
The City of Tigard embarked on an effort to update the community's Park System Master Plan in
April 2008. The Parks System Master Plan is the document that guides park, recreation,
open space, and trail development in the city. Much has changed in Tigard over the
ten years since the past Park System Master Plan was adopted in 1999 and the
City's Park and Recreation Advisory Board lead this process to update the projects
and priorities for parks and recreation. In addition to the past master plan, the
planning process built on the community priorities developed during the recent
update to the Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space element of the City's
Comprehensive Plan.
The community was the key player in guiding this update, with oral and written
input including the following: focus groups, stakeholder interviews, community
intercept interviews, community surveys and questionnaires (including a
statistically valid telephone survey), visioning discussions at workshops,
and public hearing discussions. Four Park and Recreation Advisory Board
meetings were conducted on the master plan update throughout the process.
The past planning documents are available from the process including updated data
about the city and the park system, analysis of community needs, and summaries
of project meetings. The Draft Park System Master Plan was consolidated by
MIG and presented to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board and the Tigard
City Council on June 16, 2009. The City Council adopted the Tigard Park System
Master Plan on July 14, 2009.
