Project Background
In September 2012 Metro and the City of Tigard purchased a 26-acre natural area known
as the Fields property.
Located in the heart of Tigard, just to the east of the Tigard Public Library, the property will
become a publicly-owned park and natural area. About 10 acres of the site consists of open field
areas; the remainder of the site is wooded. The Fanno Creek floodplain overlaps the western and
southern boundaries of the property. The property is unique, not only for its size, but also
because it can provide a link to other segments of the Fanno Creek Greenway Trail.
Metro committed $3.15 million toward the $5.15 million Fields property purchase, using funds
from the region's voter-approved 2006 Natural Areas Bond Measure. The City of Tigard invested
the remaining $2 million—$1 million from the voter-approved 2010 Tigard park and open space
bond measure and $1 million from park system development charge (SDC) funds.
