Fanno Creek Park
This park with its natural areas along a stretch of Fanno Creek
is a wonderful place to take a quiet walk, enjoy a picnic, view wildlife, and let the
hustle-bustle of urban life melt away. This floodplain area is a grassy, wooded
wetland that provides habitat for a variety of wildlife. Plans for the original
22 acres of this park between Hall Boulevard and Main Street includes building
a creek meander on Fanno Creek and new bridges and trail sections to allow access
around the meander and wetlands that will be created. The meander would better
simulate the natural conditions of the creek before development in the early
1900's. Future plans also include a small community park gathering area
adjacent to downtown.
In 2010, pedestrian-activated lights and a crosswalk were added on Hall Boulevard
along with the new Woodruff Bridge and boardwalk over Fanno Creek. This crosswalk
and new sections of trail allow viewing of the 9.7 acre park extension on the
east side of Hall Boulevard and access to the Tigard Library. The park is
being "developed" as a "natural environment" park with open spaces, wetlands,
flora and fauna, viewed from limited bridges, boardwalks and soft trails. There is a
large, meadow field with a small gazebo where public gatherings and events
can take place. The Tigard Library regularly holds summer events in this
open area. The Library will also use the park for educational and recreational
uses. There is an abundance of flora and fauna on the site and interpretive
signage will be installed where appropriate.
Fanno Creek Park and Plaza Master Plan
Facilities and improvements identified in
the Master Plan will help integrate the park into the larger Fanno Creek
trail system as well as serve to connect this valuable green space with
adjacent public facilities and adjacent properties.
