Best Area Attraction

Cook Park Named Best Area Attraction
The results of the second annual "Best of Tigard and Tualatin" polling of readers have been revealed. Cook Park was named as the "Best Area Attraction" in the Tigard/Tualatin area.

Cook Park Cook Park is a 79-acre regional park owned and operated by the City of Tigard. The recent development projects are now completed and visitors to the park will see a new and improved park. Cook Park now has a new playground, 290 new parking spaces, an improved 4-acre wetland with a viewing gazebo, a butterfly garden, and trail connections throughout the park. In addition, two new picnic shelters were constructed along with two new restrooms and concession stand. A new maintenance building was built which includes equipment storage space for sports leagues. An 85th Avenue emergency access road was also added. The park's irrigation system was also expanded and upgraded to utilize recycled water from Clean Water Services' Durham Treatment Plant. A mobile restroom was installed at the park's riverfront.

The premier addition to Cook Park was the construction of a multi-use sports field that will be used for soccer, little league baseball, and softball. Ed Wegner, Public Works Director says, "A lot of people are excited about it. There are new and innovative things going on down there. We have a very, very good product." Bill Monahan, City Manager says that "the state's OECCD loan allowed us to finish off these projects earlier than if we had to accumulate the money first. In future fiscal years, we will direct funds to completing other park master plans."

John Roy, Project Manager of the Cook Park Development Projects, did an outstanding job in guiding this project through completion. The contractors did an excellent job in working with the City to keep costs in line. These include Consulting Engineering Services/North West, Goodfellow Brothers, which worked on the wetlands project, Northwest Earthmovers, which worked on the gazebo, trails, fields and parking lot, and Robert Gray Partners, which constructed the buildings.
