Tigard Town Hall Meeting
State Rep. Margaret Doherty will be hosting a community forum at Tigard City Hall (13125 SW Hall Blvd., Tigard) on
Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 7-8 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

Sen. Burdick is serving her third term in the Oregon State Senate. She represents Tigard, King City and Southwest
Portland in Senate District 18. She currently serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance and Revenue,
an appointment she received in 2008. As Chair of Senate Finance and Revenue, Senator Burdick's main goal is
to make Oregon's tax system more stable and adequate to sustain education, health care, economic health,
and public safety. Sen. Burdick is a native of Portland. She attended Chapman and Bridlemile Schools and is a
graduate of Wilson High School. She received her B.A. in psychology from the University of Puget Sound in
1969 and her Masters in Journalism from the University of Oregon in 1973.

Rep. Doherty was appointed in September of 2009 to represent the people of House District 35, which
encompasses Tigard, King City, Metzger, part of southwest Portland and part of Beaverton. Rep. Doherty
has been active in Tigard community by serving on the Tigard Planning Commission and volunteering at the
Tigard Public Library for over ten years. She is a champion for public education and knows the
importance of a good education for the children of Oregon.

Sen. Jeff Merkley is the junior United States Senator from Oregon. A member of the Democratic Party, Merkley
was a five-term member of the Oregon Legislative Assembly representing House District 47, located in
eastern Multnomah County within the Portland city limits. He also served as Speaker of the Oregon House
of Representatives.
Since his election to the United States Senate, Sen. Merkley has served on the Health, Education, Labor and
Pensions Committee; the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee; the Environment and Public Works Committee;
and the Budget Committee.
Sen. Merkley was born in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. He graduated from David Douglas High School, obtained a
bachelor of arts degree in International Relations from Stanford University in 1979, and earned a
Master of Public Policy degree from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University in 1982.

Sen. Ron Wyden is the senior U.S. Senator for Oregon, serving since 1996, and a member of the Democratic Party.
He previously served in the United States House of Representatives from 1981 to 1996. In the Senate,
Wyden serves on the following Committees: Finance; Intelligence; Energy and Natural Resources; Budget
and the Special Committee on Aging. He also chairs the Energy Subcommittee on Public Lands and Forests.
In 2000, he successfully negotiated the addition of 172,000 acres of wilderness area to what is now
known as the Steens Mountain Cooperative Mountain and Protection Area. In January 2009, he was successful
in including seven pieces of legislation to the Omnibus Public Land Management Act that permanently
protected many of Oregon's natural resources including almost 127,000 acres of additional wilderness
on Mount Hood and in the Columbia River Gorge.

Suzanne Bonamici is the U.S. Representative for Oregon's 1st congressional district. The district includes most
of Portland west of the Willamette River, as well as all of Yamhill, Columbia, Clatsop, and Washington counties.
Bonamici previously represented District 17 in the Oregon State Senate from 2008 to 2011. She was first elected
to the Oregon House of Representatives in 2006.
Bonamici was born in Detroit and raised in a small Michigan town. She got an A.A. from Lane Community College, a
B.A. in journalism from the University of Oregon, and a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law.
During college, she was a legal assistant at Lane County Legal Aid in the city of Eugene. After getting
her law degree, she became a consumer protection attorney for the Federal Trade Commission in the nation's
capital. She went into private practice in Portland and represented small businesses.
