The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) was passed by Congress in 1976 and serves as the primary federal law to ensure the quality of our nation's drinking water. The SDWA authorizes the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to set national health-based standards to protect against both naturally-occurring and man-made contaminants that may be found in drinking water. All public water systems, including Tigard, are required to adhere to the rules and regulations as set forth by the USEPA which includes monitoring for nearly 90 different drinking water contaminants. This is a list of the contaminants Tigard is responsible for monitoring for on a routine basis. To view Tigard's analysis results for regulated contaminants, visit the SDWIS Data On-Line provided by the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Drinking Water Program.
