Business Recycling Requirement

Business Recycling Requirement
On April 28, 2009 the Tigard City Council adopted a Business Recycling Requirement into the Municipal Code 11.04. This was done both to enhance Tigard's recycling program and to comply with the Regional Solid Waste Management Plan.

What is Required
Businesses must:
  • Recycle paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and tubs, steel and aluminum cans, and glass.
  • Ensure containers are onsite for collection of these recyclables.
  • Post signs at collection areas indicating which materials should be recycled.
Affected Businesses
Businesses and business recycling service customers, large and small, are asked to follow the requirements. This includes government agencies, schools, and non-profit organizations. Residential based businesses are not included.

Help and Tools Available
During the first two years of the ordinance, City staff will be assisting businesses to comply. Businesses that follow the Administrative Rules and Supplemental Regulations will be considered in compliance.
