Free Sandbags Are Available
Starting in November, the City of Tigard will provide a sandbag station for Tigard
citizens and businesses to use during heavy rain periods. The intent of this station
is to help protect property from water damage and is not intended to be used by
commercial agencies as a free source of landscaping sand.
This is a self-serve
site open 24/7 and is located in the Public Works Building parking lot at
8777 SW Burnham. The station has sand bags and sand available.
As our shovels keep disappearing, you are now required to bring your own shovel.
Sandbag Safety Tips
-
Use proper lifting techniques to avoid injury and fatigue.
Lift with your legs and bend at the knees to save your back.
-
Sandbags are treated to prevent deterioration when stored.
Use work gloves and avoid contact with your eyes or mouth.
-
Stay in eye contact with heavy equipment operators and keep
alert for truck backup alarms.
-
Floodwaters can be polluted. Use rubber gloves and appropriate
clothing if contact with water is unavoidable.
-
Wear adequate clothing in layers and watertight boots. Reflective
material on outer clothing is essential for night work.
