GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: |
Reserve Officers will primarily be used to supplement the Patrol Division field forces, performing those duties regularly carried out by officers in that division. Reserves may also be used to assist in the areas of investigation and records, and to perform any assignment as directed by the Chief of Police. Reserve officers function under the direct authority of the Chief of Police, and are volunteer personnel who serve for an indefinite time at the discretion of the Chief of Police. When serving on active duty, Reserve Officers shall be entitled to all the powers and privileges of regular officers with the City, and shall be subject to all the rules, regulations and responsibilities of regular officers.

QUALIFICATIONS: |
Must be 21 years of age and a US citizen, and possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license at time of appointment. Reserve officers are required to furnish their own authorized duty weapon, as well as ballistic vest and additional equipment as required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: |
Ability to exercise good judgment and to work with diverse groups and individuals; ability to rapidly analyze facts and situations and reach sound and logical conclusions; ability to be flexible in time commitment to the reserve organization; ability to meet all current Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements for entry level police officers; ability to commit at least 20 hours of volunteer time per month, at least 16 of which is in a patrol capacity; ability to attend reserve and departmental training and assignments as needed. Skill in oral and written communication.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: |
High school diploma or GED equivalent, and job or life experience involving extensive and varied public contact. Prior police, reserve police or other public service work, paid or volunteer, is desirable.

TESTING/HIRING PROCESS: |
All candidates must complete a City of Tigard Employment
Application form, and
must take a written test. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and
Education and Training requirements are eligible to take the written test.
Based on the results of the written test, candidates may be invited to
participate in the following:
- Pre-background Check
- Physical Agility Test (ORPAT)
- Keyboarding test
- Oral Board
- Background Investigation - Additional documents required.
Candidates' history must include an extraordinary level of integrity and honesty
- Final interview with the Police Chief
- Psychological Test
- Physical Exam and Drug Screen
Testing Info:
Please check back for the next testing date and location. It will be posted
as soon as a date is scheduled.
Be ahead of the game - Download and fill out the background packet. The packet can
be turned in at the Oral Board (although not a requirement). Tigard Police can also
assist in notorizing the required elements in the packet.
