Information Technology

Computer Information Technology Mission Statement
The mission of the Information Technology division is to provide the city with timely and cost-effective access to information technology (data and telecommunications) appropriate to the mission and goals of the City, and to provide assistance and advice in its use. The Information Technology staff will make a continuous effort to ensure that city operations are making the fullest use of available resources and technologies.

Philosophy
Information Technology division staff will keep abreast of current technologies and trends, and provide leadership exploiting these technologies to establish, maintain, and enhance the city's competitive advantage. With advice from the city's departments, Information Technology division staff will develop a strategic plan for the use of Information Technology. This plan will be updated, as necessary, and serve as a blueprint for the creation of an Information Technology infrastructure. Information Technology staff will prepare budget requests and provide services consistent with the departmental goals and the goals and priorities established in the Strategic Technology Plan.

Operations
Information Technology division staff will strive to provide a robust and effective environment to support the needs of the city. Services provided will include:
  • centralized computing and telecommunications facilities (where appropriate), a city-wide data and telecommunication network,
  • access to the Internet,
  • remote access to the city's networks,
  • workstation, PC, and phone for general use,
  • acquisition, development, maintenance and support of software,
  • instruction in the use of information technology,
  • assistance and advice in the procurement of specialized software for use by departments in the city,
  • assistance in seeking funding for non-budgeted acquisition of services, software and equipment related to the use of information technology.
