Oregon 99W Northbound at I-5 Northbound Safety Project
A 2014 project is planned to improve safety and operations in the area of OR 99W northbound and I-5
northbound, spanning the Tigard/Portland city limits. Once complete, traffic in the area should see
a reduction in crashes and a better flow. View ODOT's aerial image.
Project elements include:
- An additional lane on OR 99W northbound between Coronado Street and 64th Avenue. Along with improved signage, this will help reduce confusion and create better movement between OR 99W north and I-5 north.
- The off-ramp from I-5 north to OR 99W will be widened to allow for improved flow between the two highways.
- Shoulder widening and new sidewalks to improve safety for those walking and on bicycles.

Pacific Hwy/99W @ Beef Bend Road
Work should be complete by
September 2013
A contractor
for the Oregon Dept. of Transportation
(ODOT) is beginning construction to widen
OR 99W at Beef Bend Road in order
to build a dedicated right turn lane for
southbound travelers. There have been a
high number of rear-end crashes at this
intersection and the new right turn lane
should significantly reduce the frequency
of those incidents.
The majority of the construction will
occur during the day, off the highway.
There will be intermittent nighttime work
with lane closures on OR 99W. No lanes
will be closed on the highway during the
day. There will also be occasional lane
closures on Beef Bend Road at OR 99W.
Drivers should be alert to trucks entering
and exiting the construction zone on
OR 99W and on Beef Bend Road. The
adjacent shared-use path will remain open
throughout construction.

Affairs Coordinator at 503-731-8247.

In July, the city approved its fiscal year 2012-2013 budget, which includes $37 million in
capital improvement projects. Over the next year, you can expect to see the following
projects take shape:
- A traffic signal will replace the current four-way-stop at the intersection of 72nd Avenue and Dartmouth Street.
- A sidewalk will be constructed along 92nd Avenue from Tigard High School to Cook Park.
- The city will construct its third aquifer storage and recovery well.
- The southern half of Main Street—from the railroad tracks to Pacific Highway (99W)—will see the addition of green street elements like stormwater planters, street trees and landscaping, LED street lights, new sidewalks, and other pedestrian amenities.
- Soft trails, a playground and restrooms will be built at East Butte Heritage Park. Improvements are also planned for the Summer Creek property and Jack Park.
- A new segment of the Fanno Creek Trail will be constructed from Main Street to Grant Street.
- Beyond 2013, look for improvements at the intersection of Pacific Highway and McDonald and Gaarde Streets.
