Burnham Street News

The construction of Burnham Street improvements incorporates design concepts recommend by the Tigard Downtown Comprehensive Streetscape Plan. These concepts include widening Burnham Street between Main Street and Hall Blvd. Burnham sidewalks, landscaped medians, pedestrian crossing, and on-street parking will be provided as part of the widening. In addition, a traditional four way intersection will be constructed the intersection of Burnham Street and Ash Avenue. Green street storm water management concepts will be applied for water quality enhancement. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2009.

Project Description - Ash Avenue This project includes construction of a 24-foot wide paved section to provide two travel lanes and a 5-foot wide sidewalk on the west side. Streetlights, storm drain and sanitary sewer pipes are also included in the project. The new street connects Burnham Street/Ash Avenue intersection to the new Park and Ride parking lot constructed by the Commuter Rail project.

Project Status
The Burnham Street and Ash Avenue Improvements Project was awarded to Kodiak Pacific Construction of Tualatin, Oregon on September 22, 2009. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Ash Avenue and Burnham Street on October 20th where Mayor Dirksen operated a backhoe and officially kicked off the project. The contractor started the next week installing erosion control and tree protection fencing. The clearing and grubbing has begun. The trees that were within the proposed new street improvement area have been removed.

Next week the Contractor will begin working on the sanitary sewer west of Ash Avenue.
