Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement The City of Tigard has established local City laws, called Municipal Codes, which are designed to promote safe and attractive neighborhoods, both in existing and developing areas. The City's Code Enforcement Program is intended to assist in these goals by providing enforcement of the Tigard Municipal Codes in a responsible, fair, and impartial manner. The Tigard Municipal Code may be viewed online.

When violations of the Municipal Codes are found, they are enforced similarly to criminal and traffic laws. In the same way that a police officer may issue a court citation or "ticket" for speeding, code enforcement, community service, and building enforcement officers may also issue court citations upon finding a violation of the Tigard Municipal Code. Most civil codes are considered Class One violations, with potential fines of $250.00 each, per day. Fines for repeat violations then increase up to four times their original amount.
