Summer is over and most of us are done with the recreational camping, boating, and yard improvements. Now is the
time to put away all those "toys" like travel trailers, campers, boats, and utility trailers.
Tigard Municipal Code allows items of this nature to be left in the street for a total of 10 days per year. However,
nothing can block free passage or vision of the street, sidewalk, or traffic control devices at any time.
Need more than 10 days? The Code does not restrict you from parking these type items on your property, as long as
they are not causing an obstruction. Be sure nothing is blocking the public right-of-way, like projecting past your
driveway or over the sidewalk. Check the "visual clearance", meaning nothing should block the view of your or your
neighbor's driveway when attempting to enter the street. If you are unclear about the dimensional requirements of
the "vision clearance triangle", please call our planning department at 503-639-4171 extension 2421 for assistance.
Additionally all RV's, boats, trailers, etc. kept in the front of the property must be operational, have current tags,
and can not be "occupied" or lived in.
If you are thinking of building a storage area for your "toys" , please first contact our building department at
503-639-4171 x2439 for ideas and requirements in your specific area. You may consider checking your
neighborhood to see if any homeowner's association or CC&R restrictions additionally affect your property. Please
note the City does not enforce or investigate homeowner's association or CC&R violations.
If you have a complaint regarding items blocking the public right-of-way, start with the friendly step and talk to
your neighbor. Most people who receive complaints against them are honestly surprised or hurt, wondering why the
"always nice neighbor" didn't just talk to them first. However, if you have a neighbor who doesn't feel they need
to oblige, fill out the Police Department Community Service Compliance Inquiry Form
or call Washington County Non-Emergency Dispatch at 503-629-0111 to report a potential code violation. Anonymous complaints are not
accepted. All complaints are public record and you will need the actual address of the property you are reporting.
Remember that anyone leaving items inappropriately stored in the public right-of-way will be subject to correction
notifications and court citations with fines. More importantly, please be a good neighbor. Everyone will appreciate
the teamwork in keeping Tigard a great place to live!
