Tree Board

Tigard Tree Board
The Tigard Tree Board, comprised of local volunteers, is instrumental in developing and administering Tigard's Tree Policy. The Board was established on January 23, 2001 to develop and administer a comprehensive tree management program for the maintenance, removal, replacement and protection of trees on public property. On May 22, 2007 the mission of the board was expanded to develop a comprehensive City Tree Stewardship and Urban Forest Enhancement Program throughout the city.

Tree Board Meetings:
The Tree Board usually meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month. Representatives for the Tree Board and City staff will be dedicating a significant amount of time to the Urban Forestry Code Revisions project until mid-2012. As a result, the Tree Board will be meeting once every other month until that time. After mid-2012 the Tree Board will resume meeting on a monthly basis.

Meetings are open to the public and citizens may submit public testimony on items before the Board. The Board's adopted bylaws can be found below. If you are interested in attending meetings, commenting or becoming a tree board member, contact the City Arborist at 503-718-2700 or email todd@tigard-or.gov.

Joint meeting with City Council:
Tree Board will be recommending a sustainable funding strategy for Urban Forestry.

Current Tree Board Programs:
  • 2011-12 Tree Board Goals
    1. Update Council on the Implementation of the Urban Forestry Master Plan;
    2. Develop a Funding Proposal for a Sustainable Tree and Urban Forest Enhancement Program;
    3. Develop a New Tree Board Charge Statement for Council Adoption following Adoption of the Urban Forestry Code Revisions. The Recommended Charge Shall Retain the Tree Board's Primary Function of Advising Council on Urban Forestry Issues, While Possibly Expanding Their Advisory Role to Other Natural Resource Issues; and
    4. Develop an Education and Outreach Function.

  • City Tree Stewardship and Urban Forest Enhancement Project
    On May 22, 2007, the Tigard City Council approved Resolution 07-30 adopting an interim charge statement for the Tree Board. Through this resolution, the Council substantially expanded the authority and duties of the Tree Board to enable a comprehensive tree management and urban forest enhancement program across the whole of the city. Prior to May 22, 2007 the Tree Board was limited to tree management on publicly owned lands. This interim expansion of authority coincides with the ongoing update of the City's Comprehensive Plan and is intended to address citizen concerns and regulatory inadequacies regarding the current management of the urban forest and other natural resources. For more information, contact the City Arborist at 503-718-2700 or email todd@tigard-or.gov.

  • Urban Forestry Master Plan
    Accepted by City Council on November 10, 2009, Tigard's Urban Forestry Master Plan contains a list of recommended improvements to the City's current urban forestry programs and regulations. The Tree Board is charged with advising Council on the implementation of the Urban Forestry Master Plan as part of their annual workplan.

  • Heritage Tree Program
    This program was developed by the Tigard Tree Board as a method to identify and raise public awareness of rare/exceptional trees due to their age, size, species, horticultural quality or historical importance.
