Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

The purpose of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is to advise and advocate for park and recreation opportunities for a growing Tigard. The Board meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. These meetings are open to the public.

City of Tigard Recruiting for Park and Recreation Advisory Board Members
The City of Tigard Park and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) is recruiting to fill one voting member position and on alternate (non-voting) member position. PRAB members advise the Tigard City Council and the Public Works Director on park and recreation policies, facilities, programs and budgets.

Tigard's PRAB meets at 7 p.m. on the 3rd Monday of each month at the Public Works Building Auditorium (8777 SW Burnham Street).

Individuals interested in being considered for the PRAB vacancies need to fill out a Citizen Committee Interest (CCI) Application form and return it to Tigard City Hall by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009. CCI application forms are available on-line in a variety of document formats or can be picked up in the City Hall lobby, 13125 SW Hall Blvd.

Park and Recreation Advisory Board 2009 Goals (no prioritization intended)
  1. Actively pursue 2010 bond measure - in pursuit of the measure the board shall:
    • Identify and pursue possible open space/land acquisitions.
    • Educate, investigate and research the bond measure process.
    • Identify potential partnerships with entities such as schools, Metro, etc.
  2. Completion of Parks System Master Plan
  3. Identify current city-funded or sponsored recreation activities and set recommendations for recreation programs in Tigard.
Board Overview
Woodard Park The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was created on April 22, 2003 by a unanimous vote of the City Council.

The Board consists of seven citizen members appointed by the City Council for four-year terms. The Council also appoints alternate Board members. There are also two ex-officio members: one from the Tigard-Tualatin School Board, and the other from the Tigard Planning Commission.

The Board consists of the following members: Jason Rogers, Michael Freudenthal, Brian Davies, Scott Bernhard, Troy Mears, Trisha Swanson, Kim Leinberger, and alternate Holly Polivka. Barry Albertson represents the School Board as an ex-officio member of the Park and Recreation Advisory Board.

The Board has responsibility to advise the Public Works Director and City Council regarding park and recreation policies, budget, facilities, programs and other needs of the community to provide quality park and recreation services. The function of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is established in the Tigard Municipal Code (2.12.010 - 2.12.070).

The Board meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM, in Public Works Building Auditorium. These meetings are open to the public.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board wants to establish a dialog with the residents of Tigard. Please share with the Board your comments on the City's parks and facilities, and also your thoughts on recreation opportunities in Tigard for all ages, abilities, and interests - from passive to active.
