Congrats to Tigard-based Agilyx. This firm has secured funding to upgrade its facility to convert polystyrene (foam cups, packaging materials, and Styrofoam) into styrene monomer. The Agilyx chemical recycling technology returns polystyrene waste to its highest value – a styrene monomer product that can be blended into the virgin styrene manufacturing cycle. Tigard Biotech AUYMETRIX Innovates new way of Clinical Laboratory Testing
Tigard-based biotech startup AUYMETRIX is the newest start up to receive assistance from Business Oregon, the state’s economic development agency, to pursue federal grants designed to support small businesses whose research and development has potential for commercialization. AUYMETRIX is preparing an SBIR Phase I application for federal funding through the Small Business Innovation Research grant program. The grants are highly competitive and designed for firms with the potential to move products from the R&D phase to the market. AYUMETRIX is a biotech startup in Tigard with a new dried plasma testing and laboratory diagnostics product. The firm’s product separates plasma from blood and allows for convenient and minimally invasive self-collection of blood through a simple finger pricks, storage and transportation of samples. This process also reduces risks of potential blood-borne infections. AYUMETRIX’s product allows individuals to take charge of their own health and wellness, advancing personalized medicine.

Only Oregon company to receive this recognition this year. The President’s “E” Award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. In 1961, President Kennedy signed an executive order reviving the World War II “E” symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America's exporters. Today’s honorees — the largest group to ever receive this award — helped contribute to the United States’ exporting $2.23 trillion worth of goods and services in 2015, and the estimated 11.5 million American jobs supported by exports.

David Allen Cress, the show’s producer, said that "Portlandia" was drawn to Tigard because it had everything that the show needed. "We’re a small show and we move around a lot,” Cress said on Tuesday. “Often, we’ll find one or two locations to anchor us and then find places to film in the surrounding areas. We pride ourselves on being nimble. That vape shop was great, and we knew there would be a coffee shop nearby for us to film at.
