Hwy 99W Tigard Highway Improvements

72nd Avenue to Highway 217 Interchange Hwy 99W Improvements:
72nd Avenue to Highway 217 Interchange

Severe traffic congestion exists on Hwy 99W now, with more traffic anticipated with future development. High accident rates are attributed to the high number of driveways and potential conflict points. Changes will need to be made to improve Hwy 99W, including:
  • An additional southbound travel lane will add capacity and improve traffic flow.
  • Raised medians will significantly reduce accident rates by reducing the number of vehicle conflict points. Medians also surprisingly improve traffic flow because they reduce driver confusion and eliminate many problem driver maneuvers.
  • U-turn opportunities will be provided at key traffic signals to maintain access availability for businesses.
  • Aesthetic improvements in the corridor will provide a much better business environment.
Construction is expected to begin in 2010, and will be funded by developers. Tigard and ODOT will work to minimize traffic disruption and ensure good business access throughout this work.
